'Red Hood' and other news...

It has been some time since a news update, and for pretty good reasons this time!

Firstly, The Elves and the Shoemaker has been going very well and getting a very good reception at various venues around the country. It was performed at the Quaker Meeting House as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2007, and the show sold out every single day! So, congratulations to Andy, Penny, Zak and Erin - all the hard work is certainly paying off!

Unfortunately an audiobook CD based on the show is unlikely to be produced, as the more-theatrical-than-usual nature of the production makes an audio-only translation very difficult. We are planning to rectify this oversight on our next project though, which we've just started with a view to completion in spring next year!

Secondly, I've just finished work on a short film called Red Hood. It's directed by Navin Dev (my collaborator from The Falling), shot on Super 16mm by DP Vincent De Paula and is looking VERY good. A description of the film can be found in the Music section along with a track from the score, of which I'm particularly proud. I should also say a big thank you to Kasia Middleton, the vocal soloist on the soundtrack who very patiently put up with my repeated requests for "just one more take".

Thirdly, Joe Adams, composer and pianist, has recorded a live performance of my piece The Romanticist, so it is with great pleasure that I post the recording on this site (replacing the previous MIDI rendering), and I'd also like to say a great big thanks to Joe!

Finally, I'm posting a piece I wrote last year called Lament for the Falling. I originally started work on it as a demo for one of the principal themes of The Falling, a film about a man struggling to come to terms with the loss of his daughter. The track was rejected and I put it aside to continue with work on that film's soundtrack, but I never felt right about leaving the piece be - it was meaningful to me, although at the time I couldn't fathom why. Listening to it again recently I now realise that composing this particular piece of music was in many ways the beginning of an attempt to come to terms with the loss of someone dear to me. I respectfully dedicate this piece to the memory of Rob Webb.
